    Pugs love Foraging!

Especially when we're walking through a forest and everywhere we look we see branches loaded with wild huckleberries.

ShuMai, my girl Pug, is a true omnivore. She eats anything & everything we put in her bowl, but she seems to enjoy foraging the most, which sometimes means spending an entire afternoon "foraging" through our garden, looking for tomatoes low enough for her to reach.

(Good thing she's kinda' cute, or our neighbors would be very unhappy about losing half their strawberry harvest to a 24 pound Pug.)

At least Gizzy, my boy Pug, is a gentleman. He's always polite enough to ask for permission before he digs into the huckleberry bucket, even if he can only use his expressive little eyes to do the asking.

Oh my goodness! He may be asking politely but you, he, and I are all perfectly aware that there is no way to say no to that face. They are adorable!

Grace you seem to know me so well!

I adopted him at age 5 from the Pug Rescue people. His wonderful foster mom just seemed to know he was the perfect fit for our family. That was 8 or 9 years ago, and he's been thanking me with his sweet nature every day since.

Not only can I not say "no" to him, I spoil him every chance I get. He is carried down the stairs, lifted off the couch and generally treated like a baby who's learning to walk. He can go up stairs, and get up on the couch, but he can't seem to get back down. I worry about his old hips & shoulders, and he seems to know I my level of anxiety...he doesn't even try to jump off of things or attempt to go down the stairs any more. Get him outside, however, and he's a new man. Especially in the forest...he breaks trail way ahead of the rest of the pack. My husband calls him "Cortez...the great explorer".

    He is such a doll!

Actually, I recognize that expression. I see it regularly on the face of our antique, rickety, terribly spoiled mini-dachshund. We do all of those same things for her, especially the carrying her around part. She went camping with us a couple of weeks ago and had a great time being fussed over by every passing camper while we constantly adjusted her electric blanket for her maximum comfort. Take her to the antique mall, though, and she leads the way like one of those ice breaker ships plowing through the Atlantic.

Can't help but love them, can we? Suckers, I mean loving moms, that's what we are.
